Animals are available for adoption! Animals that are impounded at the City of Bowie Animal Control Shelter are held for a minimum of 3 days commencing on the first day after impoundment. Animals without a collar are held for 3 days, animals with a collar are held for 10 days. These animals are available for adoption if not first claimed by their rightful owner.

The adoption fee for dogs and cats is $20.00 (cash only) for an unaltered animal and $10.00 (cash only) for an altered animal.

A person may adopt from the City of Bowie Animal Control Shelter providing:

  • The person is 18 years of age or older

  • The adopter signs a sterilization agreement and pays the required adoption fee

  • The adopter pays fees related to rabies vaccination.

  • Provides proof after adoption that the animal has been spayed or neutered

Proof of sterilization of the animal will need to be provided to the Animal Control Officer.  Sterilization is only required if the adopter resides within the City of Bowie.  Violation of the sterilization agreement constitutes a class C misdemeanor and the animal will be seized.
